The Canon New F1 replaced the F-1 as the company's flagship model in 1981. Like its predecessors, the New F-1 uses the FD bayonet mount.

The New F-1 is a manual exposure camera featuring TTL metering at full aperture and stop-down metering with the FN Eye-Level finder. Aperture priority mode is possible by attaching the optional AE Eye-Finder FN. Additionally, shutter priority mode can be used by attaching the AE Motor Drive FN or AE Power Winder FN accessories.

The New F-1 is an expandable and customizable system.
