The Canon A-1 is a historic camera, as it was the first camera to introduce an exposure control program. In addition to giving the photographer the choice of using a long or short shutter speed to freeze the scene and choosing an aperture to control depth of field, the Canon A-1 had a microprocessor automatically programmed to select a compromise based on the exposure of the scene ; it is currently a standard in all cameras.
