Rollei 35 Zeiss Tessar 3.5/40mm lens

Thanks to Heinz Waaske's revolutionary design, the first Rollei 35 appeared in 1966 in direct competition with the half-frame format introduced in 1961.

As a 35mm camera barely larger than a pack of cigarettes, the Rollei was a huge commercial success, selling millions of units. Nearly every aspect of the camera was specifically designed to make it as compact as possible. The shutter was made by Compur, but to a design by Waaske, allowing for the use of a collapsible lens. Gossen supplied the CDS exposure meter used to save space.
